Red Sox Injury Update…

Since the Red Sox have been known as the walking wounded lately, I’d post a little update on how our bruised and beat up boys are doing.

Clay Buchholz: Clay it pitching tonight with the PawSox in Syracuse.  All accounts are if things go well and there aren’t any issues with the hamstring, he’ll rejoin the rotation for his next start.

Josh Beckett:  Josh is pitching on Saturday with the PawSox in Syracuse.  He is scheduled to get in about 85 pitches.  He’ll be assessed after his outing and see if he needs another rehab start before rejoining the rotation.

Manny Delcarmen:  Manny pitched an inning in rehab with the Portland Seadogs last night.  He started the game and pitched a 1-2-3 inning.  Everything looks good.  MDC will be activated from the DL on Saturday.

Jeremy Hermida:  He is also in a rehab stint with the Portland Seadogs right now.  He played last night.  How did he do?  He went 2 for 4 with a double in his first outing.  He’s gonna stay with Portland for at least two more games and then will check in and be re-evaluted with the Red Sox.  Looks like he’s on his way back.

Victor Martinez:  He had some tests on his broken thumb on Thursday.  The results came back saying there was no more done to the thumb.  VMart still says it is very tender.  He was able to put his hand in a glove yesterday, but it didn’t look or pretty pretty.  He’s swinging in the cages, but right now just from the left side.

Jacoby Ellsbury:  He’s down in Fort Myers.  He is currently doing baseball activities.  He’s hitting and if everything goes to plan, he may be sent on a rehab assignment in about 2 weeks.  The report is that the ribs feel much much better.

Jed Lowrie:  Jed is currently in the middle of a rehab assignment.  He started off with Lowell and he was just called up to Pawtucket.  Jed’s been on the DL with a pretty serious case of mono.

Dustin Pedroia:  Pedey had a CT scan done today and the results are good news.  There has been significant healing in his broken foot.  The crutches are gone, but he is still wearing the boot for about two weeks.  Pedroia can participate in baseball activities again.

Jason Varitek:  His tests were not as good as Pedey’s.  His healing is not as quick and Tito has said he is about two weeks behind Pedroia.

Beltre:  Belte sat last night because of his hamstring strain right before the All Star Break.  He’s in the lineup tonight.  The Sox may be careful with him and pinch hit for him later in the game, but he seems ok and good to go.

Our team may look more like a minor league roster…but for the next few days, the PawSox are STACKED!!!
