Felix Doubront could easily be called the Red Sox best starter this season. However, last night he would not have his best outing and the Sox would lose their 4th game in a row as the Rangers scored 9 runs.
Felix Doubront didn’t allow any runs to score in the 1st inning, which is saying a lot given the struggles in the 1st by many of the Sox starters. However, in the 3rd inning he would run into trouble and ended up giving up 4 runs and the lead. Doubront gave up an 2 run RBI single to Andrus to have the Rangers go ahead. Hamilton hit an RBI double to add on another run and then Young hit another RBI single. Doubront left the inning with the Sox now trailing 4-1. Doubront pitched a scoreless 4th and 5th, however he ended up giving up a 2 run HR to Napoli in the 6th that ended his night. Doubront was out and Morales was into the game. Morales struggled himself in the 6th. Morales gave up a double and then 2 RBI singles to give the Rangers two more runs. The final run was scored when Hamilton hit a sac fly to score Kinsler. Morales pitched a scoreless 7th and Melancon pitched a scoreless 8th, however the damage was already done.
The Sox offense also didn’t get the job done. The bats were initially supposed to face Oswalt and were facing the youngin’ Feldman instead. This should have been an opportunity for the Sox offense, however they weren’t able to get much of anything going against him. The only run that would score would be in the 2nd inning when Salty hit a solo HR against his former ball club. The Sox got some hits, however none of them were with men in scoring position. Pedey went 3 for 4 and Ells, Salty and Middlebrooks all went 2 for 4, however through that only one run scored.
The Sox look to tomorrow and hopefully for Buchholz to be the stopper.
