The Red Sox have exercised David Ortiz’s option for $12.5 million for the 2011 season. Ortiz was looking for a longer deal but the team was not willing to commit to beyond 2011.
The Sox also picked up Scott Atchison’s option for next season. The team decided to pass on the $9.25 million option for Bill Hall.
In another move, the Sox traded a PTBNL to the Tigers for infielder Brent Dlugach.
