The Red Sox have placed Josh Beckett on trade waivers allowing any team to claim him if they are willing to pick up his salary. Even if he is claimed the Red Sox can pull him off of waivers. Cherington hopes Beckett will both clear waivers so he can be eligible for post-season play if a good trade offer arrives. Adrian Gonzalez is also on trade wiavers but it is unlikely that the Sox will trade Gonzalez. By placing him on trade waivers though, Cherington is showing that all bets are off.
