The Boston Red Sox have signed pitcher Vincente Padilla to a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. Padilla is slated to make $1.5 million this season if he makes the big league team, he will have to compete with Aaron Cook and Carlos Silva for a spot in the rotation this spring. The Red Sox are trying to fill out the rotation with low cost journeymen pitchers who have upside potential to keep from going far over the luxury tax threshold.
