The Red Sox finally won a game this afternoon avoiding a sweep by the Pirates, however it was an ugly ugly win. The Pirates Tajada had to be taken out of the game on a stretcher in the 1st after he somehow injured himself running out a throw to 1B. It looked bad. I’m crossing my fingers he is okay. JD Drew came out of the game in the 2nd inning because he fouled a ball off his own face in BP and his left eye was swelling shut. The Red Sox had 2 errors on the game…with Reddick either falling asleep or just being lazy not catching what should have been a routine out and Marco Scutaro booting a routine play. The Pirates were chuck full of errors as well…4 on the game. And let’s not forget the Pirates starting pitcher throwing up and in on Pedroia…not once…not twice, but three times in the game.

It was a lot of ugly all. The bright spot was Andrew Miller’s pitching. He did real well. He was able to pitch himself out of some trouble and didn’t let the drama of the day get to him. His pitching line for the night was 6 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB and 4 Ks. He left the game with the score tied 2-2 however, he was able to get the win when the Sox scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th when the Sox had the bases loaded with no outs. Pedey hit into a sac grounder to give the Sox a 3-2 lead. Then Youk hit a sac fly to plate David Ortiz. It was a close call at the plate, but Papi got in there and then knocked the catcher right off the plate. Papi has wheels y’all.
Aceves and Bard both pitched 1-2-3 innings in the 7th and 8th and turned the game over to Papelbon for the save. Pap gave up a leadoff walk to Cedeno, but then got the next three batters out in order to earn the save. Ahh, I’ve missed the feeling of a Red Sox win!
