Red Sox Walk Off on White Sox…AGAIN!

The Red Sox finished off the 4 game series with the White Sox with a getaway day game before heading off for a series in Houston.  The Red Sox had their ace Jon Lester on the mound and while he did not get the win, he once again showed the team and the fans why he should probably get paid.  The Sox had a lead going into the 9th, but Koji Uehara had a blown save to send it to extra innings.  The Red Sox for the 2nd game in a row had some walk off magic and won their 2nd game in a row.

The White Sox got on the scoreboard early when Jose Abreu hit an RBI double off Lester in the 1st inning.  Lester kept the game as a 0-1 deficit while the Red Sox bats were being no hit by the White Sox starter Jose Quintana.  In the 6th inning the Red Sox were finally able to break through and they did it in a big way.  Stephen Drew took away the perfect game when Quintana issued a leadoff walk.  Ross followed with a walk of his own to have 2 runners on and no outs.  Jackie Bradley Jr. then hit the first Red Sox hit of the game, which happened to be a game tying RBI single to score Drew.  Sox 1-1.  Brock Holt hit a sac grounder to move the runners over, Pedey grounded out and then Big Papi came to the plate with 2 outs.  Ortiz lived up to the hype and hit a 2 run RBI double to score Ross and Holt.  Red Sox 3-1.

Lester now had a lead to play with.  He pitched 7 strong innings and his pitching line was 105 pitches, 7 IP, 1 R, 0 BB and TWELVE Ks.  Lester is sure making his case and it is a good one.  Tazawa came out and pitched a nice 1-2-3 8th inning with 2 strikeouts.  Koji Uehara came out in the 9th and continued to have some of his “day game” struggles.  Ramirez hit a grounder into the infield and Koji and Ramirez were in a foot race to 1st base.  The umpires first called Ramirez out, but upon review he was called safe at 1st.  This would spell disaster for Koji as he would then give up a 2 run game tying homerun to Gillaspie.  Sox 3-3.  The Red Sox were not able to rally in the bottom of the 9th and were on to extra innings.  Andrew Miller pitched himself a scoreless 10th inning and then handed the game over to the Red Sox bats.  Nava walked to start the inning and then Betts sacrificed him over to 2nd base.  Stephen Drew was intentionally walked to get the double play in order and then Mike Carp came to the plate to pinch hit for David Ross.  Carp got the job done when he hit a single to left and Daniel Nava slide into home.  The Red Sox walked off for the 2nd game straight.
