The Red Sox were scheduled to start today at 1:35pm and when I tuned in at 1:30…I learned we were in a rain delay. Almost 2 hrs later, Clay Buchholz took the mound in hopes of giving the Sox the series against the HR hitting Blue Jays. Buch got 2.2 scoreless innings in the books before the rain picked up and we went into a rain delay again. The score was tied 0-0.
45 minutes later, the game resumed and Clay took the mound again. Almost everyone thought he’d be done for the day with the long delay and we would have burned a start from the guy who has been our best starter all year long, but nope…Clay took the mound again and picked right up where he left off. In the 5th, the bats came alive in support of Clay. Marcum had a no hitter going into the 5th and then Papi hit a triple. You heard me. TRIPLE. (FYI: Papi has hit at least one triple in the previous ELEVEN seasons.). Adrian Beltre hit an RBI double and the Sox were on the board. Bill Hall followed it by a 2 run HR…his 17th HR of the season.
Clay left the game after the 6th inning. The score was still 3-0. Clay Buchholz is truly dealing. His ERA dropped to an incredible 2.26 and he hasn’t allowed an earned run in 23.1 innings. Yep, that’s crazy good folks. The bullpen put this one in the books for Clay. Bard was in for the 7th inning and was followed by Felix Doubront in the 8th and 9th. The Red Sox added on two more runs in the 8th to finish off the game 5-0 including another RBI hit from David Ortiz. He had a nice day at the plate.
Red Sox WIN 5-0. BOX SCORE
