Red Sox: World Series Champions!

The Red Sox came back to Fenway leading 3-2 and just one win away from making the unbelievable climb from worst record in the AL to World Series Champions.  The Sox had John Lackey on the mound against rookie phenom Michael Wacha.   Lackey continued his season of redemption and dominance and the Sox bats would have his back all night long en route to the win and the World Series Championship!

The game remained tied 0-0 until the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Sox got to Wacha and cracked the scoreboard.  Ells got on with a single, they intentional walked Papi and then Gomes got hit by a pitch to load the bases for Shane Victorino.  Shane came up big by hitting a bases clearing double to have the Sox up 3-0.  In the 4th Stephen Drew, whose bat has been pretty much dead in the post season added another run with a solo leadoff homer.  Ellsbury hit a double and then Papi was intentionally walked again to end Wacha's night.  The rookie has been spectacular, but the Sox seemed to have his number tonight.

The Sox didn't take long getting after the Cards bullpen either.  Mike Napoli hit an RBI single, Gomes walked and then Victorino hit an RBI single to have the Sox leading 6-0.  While all this was happening John Lackey just kept putting up zeroes for his team.  Lackey kept the Cardinals off the board until the 7th inning and then for the first time he found himself in some trouble.  Lackey gave up an RBI single to Beltran to let the Cardinals on the scoreboard for the first time.  Sox 6-1.  Farrell came out to the mound to get Lackey, but Lackey talked him into letting him stay and face Holliday.  Lackey didn't get his guy and ended up walking Holliday to load the bases.  Farrell went out again and Lackey was done for the night.  Tazawa came out and got Craig to ground out for the final out of the inning.  Sox 6-1.  Lackey's pitching line for the night was 105 pitches, 6.2 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 BB and 5 Ks.  Well done Lack.  Rookie Brandon Workman came out and pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning and then handed the ball over to closer Koji Uehara.  It wasn't a save situation, but this is the World Series.  Koji came out and had himself his usual spectucular 1-2-3 inning to notch down the last win of the season and give the World Series to the Red Sox and the city of Boston!

Red Sox 6  Cardinals 1  BOXSCORE

WP: Lackey (1-1)  LP: Wacha (1-1)

The Red Sox are World Series Champions!!  Love That Dirty Water!!
