The wait for Tyler Thornburg will get even longer as the Red Sox announced today that he will undergo surgery to treat thoracic outlet syndrome in his right shoulder. Thornburg will get the surgery done tomorrow Friday, June 16th at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is described as “a condition where there is compression of the nerves and arteries or veins in the passageway from the lower neck to the armpit”.
Thornburg is anticipated to be ready for the 2018 season.
Tyler Thornburg has played in 144 games in the MLB with the Milwaukee Brewers pitching 219.2 innings giving up 170 hits and striking out 220. Before being traded to the Red Sox for 18-year-old infielder Yeison Coca.
