Yesterday I touched on the fact that the Carolina Hurricanes have been hampered by heir decision to use a wet paper towel as a goaltender. Now, i present you with another team in another situation. The Detroit Red Wings are in the midst of a 5 game slide, but they stand prepared to fix it.
Thus far, the Red Wings strategy has been to lean on Petr Mrazek as their starter, the go to, in contrast to Carolina’s “Well, let’s see if this works” strategy. Make no mistake, Mrazek would be a monster upgrade in Raleigh, but even in Detroit, there is someone outplaying him. Old Friend Jimmy Howard has played extremely well in his limited exposure this season. The Wings started him tonight against Philadelphia in a bid to turn things around.
It’s nice to have options, especially when the second option sounds like a great one. It’s even better when the change works – Detroit won tonight 3-2 in a shootout.
