Reds Army presents Fan Friday #46: “Summer is a Celtic”

ff

ffThis week’s Fan Friday features one of my longtime Twitter pals Summer A. Summer is an outspoken, funny and devoted Boston Celtics fan who was born & raised in Fort Lee, NJ. I’ve seen her defend her team and it’s players against many a troll in the Twitterverse. The term “bleed green” is thrown around quite a bit, but it truly applies with Summer. She’s been a fan of the team since she was just a little girl, which is ironic considering the team her parents rooted for:

I’ve been a Celtics fan since I was about five or six years old. Weird, considering I grew up with Laker fans for parents. At such a young age, I watched really whatever basketball games were on TV. For some strange reason, I almost always watched Celtics games.

Summer tells me her favorite Celtic of all time is Paul Pierce. Like many of us, she was sad to see him get traded away to the Brooklyn Nets, but in a way it was bittersweet for Summer, as she lives in New Jersey so now Pierce will be a bit closer to her. She was one of the first fans to get to meet/greet the Truth when he made one of his first appearances as a Net last summer.

I really got hooked to them because of Paul Pierce. I enjoyed his style of play. He was simple, but yet so fun to watch. With that being said, Paul Pierce is, in fact, my favorite Celtic of all time. He had his rough years in Boston, yet he endured it all, finally earning that ring he deserved in 2008. He’s been my idol for as long as I can remember, influencing the way I play basketball among other things.

As far as favorite Celtics moments go, Kevin Garnett’s “anything’s possiblllle!” declaration after Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals is Summer’s favorite. Yeah..it’s one of my favorites too.

My favorite Celtics moment ever? Probably one of the harder questions I’ll ever have to answer. Kevin Garnett yelling, “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!” would probably top my list. One of the most amazing moments I’ve ever experienced in all sports. To this day I get chills whenever I see or hear it. It was just amazing.

I really can relate to how Summer sums up her relationship with the Celtics. Fans like us eat, breathe & sleep the guys in green. It’s a passion that’s hard to describe. But she does a nice job of it:

The Celtics, for me, aren’t just a team. Being a Celtics fan is a way of life. I go out of my way to watch the games, no matter the place or time. It’s a great feeling to be a part of something that’s bigger than you, where there are so many others that share your passion. I, just like thousands of others, am a Celtic.
