Reds Prospect Reed Tearing It Up In The Minors

Cincinnati Reds number three pitching prospect, Cody Reed, has been great for the Louisville Bats so far this season. With a record of 3-2 and a 2.21 era over 40 innings pitched, Reed is looking as if he will have a solid season this year. Reed was acquired along with Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Johnny Cueto. In his last start, Reed went 6 innings and allowed two runs with seven strikeouts.  If all goes as planned, Reed will be a big part of the Reds’ future and will be among other prospects in a young pitching staff. Over a combined 26 games in 2015(23 starts), Reed was 13-9 with a 2.41 era. In 145 ⅔ innings, he allowed 127 hits and 42 walks. Reed also had  compiled 144 strikeouts while maintaining a 1.16 whip. In spring training, he was 1-2 with a 2.87 era in 15 ⅔ innings pitched.  Although he didn’t make the major league club, Reed has a good chance of making his debut this season due to the struggling Reds pitching staff.

I had the privilege of meeting Cody Reed at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio when he was there as part of the Reds’ Caravan.  While at the Caravan, Reds’ President of Baseball Operations. Walt Jocketty stated that “The success of the Reds will come as quick as the pitchers develop”.  That being said, I feel Cody Reed will have a big impact on the Reds future success.
