This week's Fan Friday features Dana from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Dana is one of the many Celtics fans that I interact with via Twitter. Despite living thousands of miles from Boston and the TD Garden, the Celtics are very close to her heart.
Dana's father, a big NBA and Boston Celtics fan himself, named her after retired Celtic Dana Barros. Her Dad was always a big fan of Barros' even before Dana played for the Celts. Dana's father was the one that got her interested in basketball and the C's. He's been a diehard fan since the days of Bird, Parish and McHale. Dana's father took her to her 1st ever Celtics game last season in Utah. Living in Canada, it's obviously a challenge to get to C's games. But Dana says that all the money she's spent on plane/game tickets is "worth every penny."
Dana lists Rajon Rondo as her favorite Celtic player. She says his "heart, dedication & drive" are the main reasons behind it. She goes on to say: "His ability to collect triple doubles night in and out, him being able to orchestrate the offense so brilliantly like NO other, generating plays out of no where, and his defensive prowess separates him from a lot of point guards."
This past January, Dana and friends made their first trip to see the Celts play at TD Garden. Despite the Celts losing to the Bulls, Dana had a fantastic time. She calls seeing the C's play in person an "overwhelming joy that will never compare to any other feeling in the world."
It's mainly the "brotherhood" aspect of the C's that grabbed Dana and pulled her in: "It's inspiring to see how much each of the players care for each other, their effort to lookout for each other, and to carry the team TOGETHER as one and not just individually…and that shines through whenever they play."
As always, thanks for reading, and be sure to follow Dana on Twitter. Have a good weekend everyone and GO CELTICS!
