Redskins’ first round Draft pick Josh Doctson will open training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
We used this news as an excuse to post @BigManPauly’s GIF response on Twitter.
You should follow BigMan. His tweets are few but usually on the mark.
And don’t get too worked up over Doctson. He didn’t have a catastrophic, season-ending, apocalyptic injury. He is not on the Injured Reserve (IR) list.
This is a precaution. The new medical team is on the job. Besides, he’s a rookie.
Rookies are all about seeding the future. The third through seventh-rounders might make the team and become significant contributors … by 2018.
The first and second-round selectees should crack the starting line-up by the end of their rookie season. By that measure, the Draft Class of 2014 is more important. There is time for Doctson.
Washington’s receiving corps is already strong and otherwise healthy going into training camp. DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon are playing for future contracts, here or somewhere.
Yessir, GM Scot McCloughan fixed it so that the quarterback and both leading receivers are motivated by a contract year.
Who doesn’t love that?
I suspect the salary cap will squeeze one of the receivers off the roster next year. Queue Mr. Doctson for a starring role if that happens.
It’s football. Injuries happen. Seasons are a test of team depth … which brings us back to that whole “rookies are our future” thing.
