The Redskins cut six players on the eve of the the first roster cut-down day. CB Jeremetrius Butler and WR Todd Pinkston are the most promanent of the released players who include DE Jamaal Green, LB Kevin Jones, LB Kevin Jones, WR Jerel Myers and DE Bryant Shaw. Butler was seen as experienced secondary depth, an area of deep concern to the team. His presence was seen as a threat to fan favorite Ade Jamoh, who is a beast on special teams, but a liability as a nickel back. Pinkston was a surprise signing, but never got a chance to show if he was ready to return to the pros. Perhaps he was one of those “send a message” signings to make an impression on the team. With only one preseason game left, the coaching staff perhaps decided to focus remaining preseason time to the more likely roster candidates. The team roster now stands at 79 players. They must be down to 75 by 4:00 p.m. ET Tuesday. However, four Redskins players carry a NFL Europa roster exemption. The final roster cut down day is September 1.
