Hog Heaven readers know we’re beating the drum for S Davonte Shannon, the little-noticed UFDA out of the University of Buffalo. Shannon’s sack of Tyrod Taylor in the Baltimore Ravens game Friday night brought him to the attention of the big media guys.
Ryan O’Halleran has a few words about Shannon up on his Redskins notes online now at CSNWashington.com.
“Rookie safety Davonte Shannon is a long-shot to make the final roster, but he did have a great moment Thursday when he sacked Ravens quarterback Tyrod Taylor for a 13-yard loss, forcing Baltimore to kick a field goal.
“’I knew it was third down and we had been blitzing the safeties off the edge,’ Shannon said. ‘I saw it was a pass and I knew I had to beat the tackle with speed. I got around him and Tyrod was right there. I tried to learn from earlier when I thought I had a sack but he slid out of it. I ended getting my hands on him and making the play.’”

Everyone loves an underdog. Shannon is exactly that. I don’t think the ‘Skins will have seen enough of him to make the final roster right off. I’m pulling for him to make the Practice Squad. Then, who knows what may come next?
What are the Redskins this year if not underdogs?

Point after: Power is up, but the heavy wind and rain hasn’t hit yet. Our adventure isn’t expected in DC until tonight, but I’m hearing that Richmond, Virginia is hard-hit. Over 600,000 homes have lost power in Maryland and Virginia. Got to get these quick stories up while I can.
Stay dry, my friends.
