Social media is great for measuring trends and moments. It’s also great for measuring emotional overstatement and hyperbole. If the Redskins win the NFC East division, it is because the division is coming our way, not because the Redskins will “win” it.
If we do not beat the Giants, it won’t be because Gruden blew it today.
We are the same six or seven-win team we have always been, But the BEast can be tamed by an eight-win team.
The Giants play the Redskins at FedEx Field with the division lead up for grabs. Washington climbs to a tie for division lead, with tie-breaker advantages, if they win. Not bad for a team whose GM, Scot McCloughan, warned last August would not be good. (You remember that, right?)
A New York win puts them two up on their nearest division rival (us).
Fans are losing their minds at the possibilities. Some are posting on social media that Coach Jay Gruden should be fired on the spot if the Redskins lose.
Slow down, cowboy!
Yes, Gruden called this a “must win game.” Yet, every game is must win.
Missing 2 starters on O-line, Giants changing starters at 3 positions: Geoff Schwartz from RG to LG, John Jerry to RG, Dallas Reynolds to C.

Today only counts one game whether we win or lose. There are five games left. Three of them are against division rivals. The Redskins have a fair chance to sweep a division rival or two.
Wouldn’t that be sweet?
The Redskins get in trouble when their owner, Daniel Snyder, thinks like a fan. Fans do not think through the dynamics of building a winning organization. That’s why conventional thinking buy fans’ is usually wrong.
To his credit, Snyder is in better control of his worst impulses.
The Front Office will not judge Gruden on a single game. They will look at the totality of the season when they evaluate him. Even then, they will be reluctant to pay off a guy with three years left on a guaranteed contract.
Gruden-haters should just grin and bear it. The rest of us should just root for the Redskins.
If the ‘Skins win, I am upping my personal prediction to seven or eight wins for the season. As we said, eight wins might take the division.
