The Redskins face the Vikings this Sunday with Ty Nsekhe stepping up in Trent Williams’ spot at left tackle. The NFL suspended Williams four games for missing a scheduled drug test.
Hog Heaven knows little about Nsekhe. We always spell check the name because we have no sense of which spelling “feels” right, Nsekhe, or Nsehke.
Or even the correct way to say it. One TV announcer pronounced it “NES-kee.” The web site Pronouncekiwi made the name out as “Insect.”
That doesn’t feel right either.
I speak no African languages, but I am African-American, which makes me as smart as that guy who slept in the express hotel last night.
When I meet people whose name begins with the letters “M” or “N,” They seemed to soften those consonants. Hog Heaven is going with “nn-SEK-khee” for Mr. Nsekhe.
Sunday’s Vikings at Redskins game announcers are figuring that out by going directly to the source to get his preferred pronouncement. We’ll have the answer then as they frequently call his name to say how great (we hope) he is doing in Williams’ place.
Ty Nsekhe, the man, the myth, the dreamer that won’t let go
Attauyo “Ty” Nsekhe is an American-born (Brooklyn, N.Y.) veteran of the Arena League, CFL and NFL. He is not so much a journeyman as he is a football gypsy. Here’s a list of his teams since 2009:

This is a man that won’t give up his dream of a football life.
Nsekhe is a big man, 6 ft. 8 In., 335 pounds. Yet he has receiving stats in arena football – 13 catches, 123 yards, 3 touchdowns.
He’s a threat on any “tackle eligible” situation.
Just kidding. He’ll have his hands full just blocking. The Vikings will surely test him early.

—and Nsekhe is the next test of Scot McCloughan’s skill at building a resilient team. Scot’s done pretty well in that department. He just signed Blaine Clausell off the Ravens practice squad and put him straight to the roster as back-up left tackle.
Rich Tandler’s story on csnmidatlantic.com points out the cascading effect of losing RT Morgan Moses to injury if that happens in the next four games. Nsekhe was back-up to both.
If Moses goes down for any reason, the Redskins would be forced to unnatural acts. Tandler suggested the ‘Skins might rejigger the starters to move Brandon Scherff to right tackle, Spencer Long to right guard, start veteran John Sullivan at center rather than simply move untried Vinston Painter up to right tackle.
Hog Heaven says Nsekhe will do well these next four weeks. We hope Moses stays healthy and that the Redskins go 2-2 at least in Williams’ absence.
