They must have. Everybody writes about them. All of them.
Hog Heaven keeps telling you that anything can happen when it comes to free agency and the Redskins’ quarterbacks. This statement caught my eye today.
“Washington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy could be an ‘interesting option’ for the Dallas Cowboys in free agency this offseason.”
~ From: Henry Buggy, hngn.com.
Colt McCoy? Really?
That’s just one blogger’s opinion. He isn’t an NFL insider.
Some have already tagged Kirk Cousins as the No. 1 free agent QB of 2016. Controversy about Robert Griffin III is off the chart. Griffin-lovers hope to see him land with a division rival so that he can come back and prove what a colossal blunder Washington is making to let him go. Griffin-haters say the ‘Skins blundered when they did not release Griffin when they fired Mike Shanahan.
With all the pixels devoted to next moves by the Redskins, Cousins and Griffin, everyone forgets that McCoy is a free agent who would jump at any chance to start anywhere but Cleveland (again).
We’ve never been as certain as others about the picture painted by the Redskins about Cousins. The franchise tag is not foolproof. Nobody actually wants to use the franchise tag. It only takes one QB-needy team to believe Cousins is worth a couple of first-round Draft picks to snatch him away.
Scouting departments are weighing the 2016 QB draftees against Cousins. The numbers argue against it. I know that.
Rookie quarterbacks earn around $4 million per season. The going rate for veteran QBs is just south of $20 million. But rookies need starter reps in 36 to 48 games to round into form. Cousins is closer to a finished product.
If Colt McCoy had been #cowboys backup QB this past season, Dallas, not #Redskins, would have won NFC East #nfl https://t.co/1uxCvNGgko

GMs do look at these things far more deeply than fans do and fans take too much for granted.
Re-signing Cousins and McCoy to run Gruden’s offense is the rational way to go. It is the most likely outcome. Only then should the team release RGIII.
We just point out that the Redskins are not in 100 percent control of that scenario.
Nothing is certain in life nor football.
