From Sway to Shaq, the stars were out yesterday for Day 1 of the Reebok Breakout Classic that brings out the best high school basketball talent and D1 college coaches.
The games started at 5:00 pm on Wednesday being played on both courts 1 and 2. On court 1, where TSL was situated, Pennsylvania and New Jersey was well represented.
At 5:00 pm game on court 1, Team 1 (MMG) took on Team 6 (Breakaway). On Team 6, Sean Lloyd from Imhotep Charter came off the bench beginning in the second quarter and had an offensive outburst. Lloyd representing Philadelphia has a throwback style of game in the way he plays. The 6-foot-5, 2015 guard will be interesting to keep an eye on today and Friday.
Another player, who had a great game was Markis McDuffie from St. Anthony’s (NJ), the 6-foot-8, 2015 guard/forward has a great offensive game driving to the basket. According to 247Sports, he has offers from Boston College, Buffalo, Fordham, Penn State, Quinnipiac, Seton Hall, and St. Peter’s. With the likes of those schools being in attendance at the Reebok Breakout Classic, he could draw up some more interest.
After the 5:00 pm game, the 6:00 pm game tipped off and in that game, Team 8 (Reignman) took on Team 11 (Vertical). In this game, Team 11 was down by as many as 15 points but in the second quarter, it became the Ahmad “JR” Gilbert and Jake Silpe show.
Silpe, the 6-foot-2, 2015 guard from Cherry Hill East (NJ) had a tremendous game on both sides of the ball. Silpe has a great feeling for the game as he is a floor general manning the point guard position and is great setting his teammates up. He also has good defensive skills as he can move his feet well. According to 247Sports, he has offers from Boston University, Bucknell, Colgate, Columbia, Dartmouth, Loyola (MD), UPenn, Quinnipiac, Rider, and Yale.
Finally, his teammate Ahmad “JR” Gilbert from Constitution High School in Philadelphia, also helped ignite Team 11 (Vertical). Gilbert has tons of athleticism as he put it on display for many coaches. According to Owls247, Gilbert already has offers from Rhode Island, Drexel, Quinnipiac, Hofstra and getting interest from St. Joseph’s and Temple.
Today and Friday shall be interesting days going forward as these basketball players are trying to show themselves off to D1 college coaches.
