I am going to file this news in the “no shit” folder.
Word coming out of Boston is that both Smith and Krug are going to hold out because the Bruins can’t haven’t signed them to new contracts. If you took a look at the Bruins salary cap, you’d notice that they are currently over the cap by $809k which means the two players couldn’t even accept their qualifying offers if they wanted to.
For those that may forget, Krug and Smith are special cases when it comes to restricted free agency. They can not be signed or given an offer sheet by other teams.
Everything goes back to the mess Peter Chiarelli has made with the salary cap.
There is a 100% chance that someone on this roster is gone and most are looking at Johnny Boychuk because he’s going to be rolling around in money when his contract is up this season.
What a disaster.
