If you live in the Greater Pittsburgh area, chances are you have at least driven past the Heinz History Center at the corner of 12th and Smallman Street in the Strip District. If you’ve never been there, this is the opportune time to go. Starting on Saturday, the Heinz History Center, in conjunction with the Pro Football Hall of Fame, is opening a Gridiron Glory exhibit that features an array of football artifacts from both Western Pennsylvania and around the country. If you’re interested in the exhibit, there is information on tickets and hours on the History Center’s website.
If you want to get some of the benefits of football history but don’t want to fork out any cash, there is a “kick-off” pep rally this Saturday October 6 from 10:00am to noon at the Heinz History Center parking lot at the corner of 12th and Smallman. According to the press release, the kick-off pep rally is FREE to anyone who wants to attend and there will also be free food. While the outdoor event is free, you will have to buy a ticket to get in the door and see the actual exhibit.
If you don’t have the free time to get down there this weekend, the exhibit will be on display through the end of the year. Looking at the event schedule, if you can’t make it for the free food this weekend, you’ll probably want to hold off until the end of the month when the Steelers Hall of Fame busts will be on display from October 24 to 29. As has become an annual tradition, the History Center will display all six Lombardi Trophies during the last week of November (23 to 29). The Super Bowl trophies go on display the day after Thanksgiving, so this might be a good place to take those out of town relatives (particularly if you have any from Cleveland), since it’s the only place on Earth you can see Six Lombardi Trophies together in the same room.
