Replacing Big Papi in the Lineup

Tampa Bay Rays v Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox have very big shoes to fill when it comes to replacing David Ortiz’s bat in the lineup.  It will not be possible to find someone that will instantly bring fans to their feet in the late innings with the game on the line but there are some free agents out there to provide a temporary solution.

Carlos Beltran is a possible solution and he has said he would be interested in coming to Boston.  Beltran had 29 homers last year but he is 39 and will not be in for the long term.

Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista are also possibilities but they would cost the Red Sox a first round pick.

Other options include Pablo Sandovol or Hanley Ramirez, using either of those players as DH frees up the Red Sox to look for solid gloves in the infield.
