This might be enough to get your weekend off on a sour note…
Confirmed: Adam Breneman has a torn ACL
— Ryan Snyder (@BWISnyder) June 15, 2012
Breneman injured his knee in a seven-on-seven camp this week. He heard his knee snap while going up to haul in a catch on a seam route and knew immediately something was wrong. The MRI results, obviously, confirmed the worst fears for Breneman.
Now here is the good news. Breneman still has a year of high school left, which means he will likely be as close to 100% as he can be by the time he arrives to Penn State training camp next summer. Still, questions about his knee will linger and he will have to get back in to game shape, let alone do so getting ready for a tougher level of competition.
Breneman was expected to get in to the mix in Penn State’s offense relatively quickly when he finally joins the team, but now his focus will be more on rehabbing, and the coaching staff will have to make sure he does not over do it early on. Remember, he will have four years of eligibility so there is no real rush to get Breneman going. A red shirt season in 2013 now becomes pretty likely for Breneman, which means we may not see him suit up for Penn State until the 2014 Blue White Game. If that means four solid years of production out of Breneman, so be it.
