With the first shocking move of NBA Free Agency, the Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a four-year, $30 million deal with forward Al-Farouq Aminu, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
Many people are surprised at this deal because of Aminu’s limited production this past season with the Dallas Mavericks and over his entire career.
Aminu, who was drafted with the eighth overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2010, has not lived up to the expectations that come with being a top ten pick. Over his career, he is averaging 6.4 points, 5.3 rebounds while shooting 43.7 percent from the field.
After spending his rookie season with the Clippers, Aminu was then traded to the New Orleans along with Eric Gordon and Chris Kaman, while Los Angeles received Chris Paul.
This past season, Aminu played with the Dallas Mavericks and did not make an impact during the regular season. He only averaged 5.6 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 41.2 percent from the field. Then in the playoffs, he played better, averaging 11.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. In the first round of the playoffs, he shot 54.8 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from three-point range.
Portland will be looking for that same type of production from Aminu as they traded away Nic Batum to the Charlotte Hornets and are on the verge of losing LaMarcus Aldridge.
