Free agent Andre Miller and the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement on a one-year contract, reports RealGM’s Shams Charania and Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears. Miller will earn the veteran’s minimum.
The eighth pick out of Utah in the 1999 draft has enjoyed an illustrious career dressing for seven teams. He most recently played for the Sacramento Kings, who acquired him in a trade with the Washington Wizards for Ramon Sessions on February 19. The 39-year-old point guard made an impact from the get-go, pushing the offensive tempo and producing 5.7 points, 4.7 assists, 2.5 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 1.9 turnovers in 20.7 minutes over the final 30 games.
In 16 seasons, the ironman has made 1,265 regular season appearances (935 starts) and averaged 12.8 points, 6.7 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 2.4 turnovers in 21.5 minutes a contest. He led the NBA in assists with 10.9 per game during the 2001-02 campaign.
In Minnesota, Miller will compete for backup minutes at the point with Zach LaVine, Tyus Jones and Lorenzo Brown. Sacramento showed lukewarm interest in re-signing the veteran this summer but opted to add 24-year-old Seth Curry as a third ball handler. Needless to say the Kings will miss Miller’s leadership.
