If you thought conference realignment was over, think again it’s not! According to report from CBSSports.com College Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman, the Atlantic 10 conference is close to adding Davidson to the league in the 2014-15 season. This move will only happen if it is approved by the school’s board of trustees.
This is a good pick up by the Atlantic 10 conference if they can add a team like Davidson to an already good conference. Davidson has been the head of the class when it comes to the Southern Conference and has been in the NCAA Tournament for five of the last eight seasons. Also Davidson has won back to back conference tournament titles in 2012 and 2013.
The Atlantic 10 is restocking the conference as they have already loss Temple (American Athletic Conference), Charlotte (Conference USA), Butler and Xavier (Big East) and could possibly lose Dayton and Saint Louis in the near future. So far the conference has added the George Mason Patriots who will begin play in 2013 and has been apart of the CAA. This season, George Mason played in the championship of the CBI and lost to Santa Clara University.
But Jeff Goodman also reports that there could be another team added to the Atlantic 10 and that is Siena, who currently plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. One thing, I can say about the Atlantic 10 conference is that even though they are losing teams they are picking up powerhouses from small conferences.
