Report: Blues have “mild interest” in Jason Spezza

Jason Spezza

<![CDATA[News emerged the other day that the odds of Jason Spezza being traded are pretty good. Spezza’s end of the year comments and the fact he’s in the final year of his current contract in 2014-15 mixed with Ottawa’s shifting identity make him an ideal trade candidate. Would the St. Louis Blues be interested?

According to the Ottawa Sun, the Blues have expressed “mild interest” in Spezza. The only other team mentioned directly by name in the article is the Anaheim Ducks. The report states the obvious, pointing out the fact the Blues’ playoff collapse may increase the odds that the team is willing to make a deal.

What does “mild interest” even mean? Who knows. It may mean the Blues are one of the few teams who have actually reached out and touched base. It may mean the Blues inquired last season about Spezza as they did with other players (Thomas Vanek). It’s safe to say a lot of teams would be interested in Spezza and those with at least “mild interest” could number in the 20s.

Spezza is owed $4 million in 2014-15, but carries an average cap hit of $7 million. All of his 686 regular season games have been with the Senators.]]>
