The 2016 NBA Draft is only two weeks away and the Philadelphia 76ers will officially be on the clock with the first overall pick. While many people believe that the Sixers will take LSU’s Ben Simmons, there is still a slim possibility that they could take Duke’s Brandon Ingram.
On Thursday, Ingram worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers, who hold the second overall pick in the draft and are very high on the 6-foot-9 forward. After his workout, according to Eric Pincus of Basketball Insiders, Ingram said that he’ll definitely work out for the Sixers. Ingram also added that logistics aren’t set yet regarding the workout.
If the Sixers decide to shock the world and take Ingram with the first overall pick, they will be adding an excellent scorer that the team currently lacks at both the shooting guard and small forward positions.
This past season, Ingram averaged 17.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 34.6 minutes per game. He also shot 44.2 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range.
While many analysts compare Ben Simmons to LeBron James, others compare Ingram to Kevin Durant. Both players have the same type build and have a knack for scoring. When Durant was at the University of Texas, he averaged 25.8 points and shot 47.3 percent from the field.
Also consider this, if the Sixers do take Ingram, then there would not be a necessary need to trade either Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor. Instead, the Sixers can keep those players with the addition of Ingram, helping them tremendously on both sides of the ball.
The NBA draft is vastly approaching and it will be interesting to see who the Sixers select as the new face of their franchise.
