ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Anthony Gonzalez “recently” tweaked his ankle. It is possible that this is what kept him out of the Washington game, but the timing of the tweak was not clear. The injury is not expected to be serious, but at this point any report of a hangnail is cause for concern for this Colts team.
UPDATE:
John Oehser of NFL Fanhouse reports that Anthony Gonzalez has no idea where a setback rumor would come in his recovery from a high ankle sprain.
“I saw that little report,” Gonzalez said. “I have no idea what that is. No tweaking. Nothing. I have no idea where it came from. I’m very optimistic. I feel really good, I’ll say that. I feel good about the progress we’ve made. I am optimistic. I’d be surprised if I didn’t play.”
Regarding the rumor specifically, Gonzalez said, “The guy didn’t make it up — I’m sure somebody told him. Whoever that is told him a lie, though — so whatever. … I have no clue where it came from. I really have no idea. I didn’t tell anybody that.”
Gonzalez is projected to return against the Texans. If he is not active, Schefter and the report will look more credible. Until then, Gonzalez seems to believe things are looking good.
