Report: Danny Ainge working on trade to bring Kevin Love to Boston

Despite, the rumors that you have heard about Kevin Love, Carmelo Anthony, and Kobe Bryant all working out together at UCLA don’t expect Love to be in the purple and gold next season.

You could possibly be seeing him in green and white next season with the Boston Celtics as Danny Ainge has been persistent on trading for the big man. According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the Celtics are trying to gather assets to acquire Kevin Love.

However, a league source said Monday that president of basketball operations Danny Ainge is attempting to gather assets to acquire Kevin Love, convinced he can devise a package that would entice Minnesota Timberwolves president Flip Saunders to move the three-time All-Star, who will be a free agent next season.

According to two NBA sources, Ainge has been dogged in his pursuit of Love, and several agents believe he has the creativity to put together an attractive package.

The Celtics are essentially out of salary cap space, but they do have a $10.2 million trade exception from the Paul Pierce deal they have to use by Saturday. They also have potentially talented rookie James Young to offer in a deal. While Young was ruled out of summer league with a neck injury, there was speculation the Celtics are keeping him on ice in case of a potential deal.

This isn’t shocking because many people have thought Love to the Celtics would be a great move to help point guard Rajon Rondo. If you think about it, the Celtics have the pieces to get Love even if that means they have to trade the likes of James Young, who they just drafted a couple of weeks ago. To sweeten the deal, the Boston Celtics could add the likes of future round picks, Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk.

If Love went to the Celtics it would then be about trying to lock him up to a long term deal, which has been a tough task in itself. Danny Ainge is trying to improve this team quickly as the landscape of NBA is changing.
