Report: David Lee will be gone in a few weeks

David Lee

David Lee

Now that David Lee is completely out of the rotation, I don’t care much about his spot on the roster. I’ve seen him actively participate on the bench and celebrate along with the rest of his teammates.

But he cares about his spot on the roster, and the Celtics care about making sure this lack of distraction continues long term… so they’re reportedly going to get rid of him one way or the other.

As I’ve said before, Lee’s most important role with the Celtics was getting out of the Gerald Wallace deal one year sooner (edit: their contracts expire at the same time) Now that that’s done, they’re going to either (a) use him to make salaries work in a trade deadline deal or (b) buy out his deal and send him on his merry way.

It’s obvious the Celtics are going to be active over the next two weeks. They’ve asked questions about Dwight Howard, Jeff Teague, and Al Horford (that we know about) and people keep wanting to throw Boston in the mix of every NBA trade rumor because of all the assets at Danny Ainge’s disposal. We’ll see what kind of sorcery Ainge can pull off this time.

Keep in mind, also, that the buzz is NBA GM’s have a sense that Danny Ainge is getting a little anxious considering the whopping offer he made Charlotte just for the right to draft Justise Winslow… and if he’s willing to trade all that for a guy who hasn’t played, then what will he give for an established NBA veteran?

So will other teams wait until the clock is ticking down again to see if he’ll go overboard again to sweeten a deal? And considering the buzz, is it fair to say Ainge will shoot down opposing GM’s trying to take advantage of him this time around?

We’ll have to wait and see. Either way, We’re going to be Lee free in a matter of weeks.. it’s just a matter of how.
