With 100 days till the NFL Draft, the news and rumors are swirling around about what the Philadelphia Eagles will do at pick 20. Will they keep the pick or try to use it to acquire Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. It seems like the latter of the two might just happen.
According to NJ.com, an unnamed source has told them that the team “is going to try” to move up in the draft to select Mariota.
Here is more from NJ.com regarding the possible movement to get Mariota:
“From No. 20, it’s certainly not going to be easy,” said the unnamed source. “It’s probably going to take moving up twice to do it. There’s going to be some wheeling and dealing involved. Can it happen? I don’t know. But they’re going to try.”
Now before Eagles fans get excited, there would have to be a mega trade that happens for Philadelphia to get into the top five because there is no way Mariota slides out of the top five. Even though, I believe that he could possibly fall to the sixth overall pick to the New York Jets.
The question that remains is if you were in Chip Kelly’s shoes, how much are you willing to give up for Mariota? Are you willing to give up this year’s first and second pick coupled with next year’s first round pick and LeSean McCoy? That seems like a lot to give up especially given what has happened to Washington when they gave up a lot for Robert Griffin III. Griffin has battled injuries, while the Rams are building a strong, young defense for many years to come.
Many analysts think Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will be the first overall pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and if that happens do not be surprised if Kelly makes a move for his guy.
