A little bit before 2 a.m. on the east coast, the Philadelphia Flyers made a trade. According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the Flyers have traded veteran defenseman Braydon Coburn to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenseman Radko Gudas and a 2015 first and third round pick.
In 39 games this season with the Flyers, Coburn only has one goal and eight assists for nine points. In his nine years with Philadelphia, he has played in 576 games, scored 37 goals in conjunction with 124 assists for 161 points. Finally, he also has a $4.5 million cap hit and has a limited no-trade clause.
As mentioned, the Flyers got two draft picks and Gudas from Tampa Bay. This season, Gudas has only played in 31 games as he is currently on injured reserve because of right knee surgery. When he did play, he only had two goals and three assists for five points.
In terms of last season with the Lightning, he played in 73 games and saw time in the playoffs. During the 2013 regular season, Gudas had three goals and 19 assists for 22 points. Finally in the playoffs, he played in three games and only mustered an assist. Unlike Coburn, Gudas’ cap hit for this season is $991,667 so it looks like the Flyers got the better of the deal.
