As reported by Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee, Jason Thompson will re-sign with the Sacramento Kings. An agreement on a multi-year contract was reached by the team and the four-year veteran on Sunday.
According to Jones, Thompson is expected to earn roughly $6 million a year.
This news comes on the heels of power forward Ryan Anderson reaching an agreement with the New Orleans Hornets yesterday. The Orlando Magic have agreed to sign and trade Anderson, who will ink a deal worth approximately $36 million over four seasons. Anderson was seen around Sacramento last week visiting with Kings front office staff .
The Kings will approximately have $6 million in salary cap room remaining after Thompson officially re-signs and they agree to terms with rookie Thomas Robinson. Free agent small forward Terrence Williams is still an option for Sacramento. Last week Hoopsworld reported that Williams had garnered interest from the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns in addition to the Kings. The Kings could also use some of that money to absorb a low-risk contract via trade.
The Kings, however, do want to save future salary cap room for possible contract extensions with Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins. Based on the deals being offered to some of this year’s free agents, Evans and Cousins are expected to be due huge pay days in the next few seasons.
