Marc Spears has some disappointing news about Kevin Durant’s free agency:
Don’t stress too hard, Thunder fans. Yes, Durant, 27, is the star of this year’s NBA free agency reality show. But barring an incredible sales job, several friends and business colleagues close to the 2014 NBA MVP expect him to return to Oklahoma City for at least another year.
“His decision is 90 percent made. It would take an amazing sales pitch to change it,” said one of Durant’s longtime friends.
Another Durant colleague said, “It’s going to take some sweet-talking to get him to pass up all the money he can get by staying in OKC.”
Can we at least get through the weekend before these stories start surfacing? The comment about money does go against everything we’ve been hearing to date from Durant’s camp. This was supposed to be about winning and fit.
I do find it interesting that, despite being one win away from the Finals, the Thunder are working hard to overhaul the roster. After dealing Serge Ibaka to Orlando, they are now trying to move Enes Kanter and other role players to clear space for Al Horford.
The Celtics have enough cap space to add Durant AND Horford without gutting the roster.
