Free agent Andrea Bargnani has opted to turn down the Sacramento Kings and sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Per ESPN’s Marc Stein, Bargnani reportedly backed out of a two-year agreement worth more money from Sacramento.

With the Kings’ newfound frontcourt depth, Bargnani was expected to come off the bench. Stein’s sources hinted the free agent found Brooklyn more appealing due to a potentially larger role.

The 29-year-old Italian was the first overall draft selection by the Toronto Raptors in 2006. The sharpshooter scored a career-high 21.4 points per game in 2010-11, but injuries have derailed any momentum since. Bargnani has appeared in only 137 games the past four seasons, including a career-low 29 games in 2014-15.

In 504 games (377 starts) with the Raptors and New York Knicks, Bargnani has recorded 15.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.9 blocks and 1.6 turnovers in 30.1 minutes. Last season he averaged 14.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 blocks and 1.4 turnovers in 27.1 minutes for the Big Apple.
