Whenever pending trades go down in the NFL, it is almost assumed that the deal will get done. However, the whole “pending physicals” part of the deal may sometimes rear its ugly head, and shake things up.
According to ESPN’s Ed Werder Chris Mortensen, that may be the case with the Eagles’ first trade on Monday that would send linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerback Byron Maxwell to the Miami Dolphins for undisclosed draft picks.
While the former has had his share of injuries, it is Maxwell who raises concerns for the Dolphins. Maxwell sprained his shoulder in the Eagles’ Week 15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in what would be his last active game in an Eagles uniform…probably.
The report states that the Dolphins are concerned about the status of Maxwell’s shoulder going forward, and whether he can play like the $63 million man the Eagles projected him to be when they signed him to that hefty contract last off-season. If they feel the injury could hurt his production, the proposed trade could be scrapped.
Maxwell’s production fell well short of the Eagles’ expectations, but Miami must have saw something that attracted them to the former Seahawk as well as Alonso.
The status of the proposed trade is still pending, and we may not know its fate until after 4 p.m. ET when the new league year begins.

UPDATE 11:18 am: Maxwell’s agent Alex Keels tweeted that Maxwell has been cleared by the Dolphins’ medical staff and that the trade will go on as planned.
