You thought the Nets were out of the trade rumors game for the meantime, right? Well, if you did think that, you would be wrong as a recent report has placed Brooklyn in possible trade talks with the Charlotte Bobcats regarding the teams making a one-for-one deal involving Kris Humphries and Ben Gordon. Humphries has been put into nearly every trade hypothesis regarding the Nets over the past few years but this one might be the most reasonable and possible one yet.
Think about it. Both Humphries and Gordon make $12 million a year, meaning that the salaries match off the bat. As that is normally the trickiest part of any trade negotiation, the first hurdle of a potential deal is already bypassed. Also, Hump has been severely under-utilized this season in Brooklyn, becoming a massive afterthought with the emergence of Reggie Evans as the team's starting power forward. Gordon, a player that a rebuilding team like Charlotte has no real use for, is averaging 13.1 points a game and could give the Nets the perimeter shooting touch they need as the 21st-best three-point shooting team in the NBA.
The trade has been described as being in the early stages but it appears that both teams have interest. Gordon would be a nice addition for the Nets while Humphries would toughen up a really bad Bobcats squad that needs more fighters down low to bang with the bigs of the NBA. I really wouldn't be surprised to see this one go down around the trade deadline, which is in around a week.
