The 2016 NFL Draft is only a day away and the Philadelphia Eagles will be gearing up to take North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz with the second overall pick. After Wentz, the Eagles have a multitude of late round picks to address other positions.
One position that the Eagles could address in the draft is wide receiver. Despite, the Eagles signing veteran wide receivers Chris Givens and Rueben Randle earlier in the offseason, they could still use a speedster on the outside. Right now, the Eagles are hoping that last year’s first round pick Nelson Agholor can be that guy but the jury is still out on him.
If the Eagles decide to draft a wide receiver, they could be going back to the Pac-12 conference to get one. According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, Oregon wide receiver Byron Marshall had a private workout with the Eagles along with the Arizona Cardinals and visited the Baltimore Ravens.
Marshall, who is 5-foot-9 and 201 pounds was a versatile player at Oregon, playing both running back and wide receiver. If you think about it he is the same type of player as Josh Huff but more explosive.
In 2013 as a running back, Marshall had 1,038 rushing yards on 168 carries and 14 touchdowns. Then in 2014 as a wide receiver, he had 74 receptions for 1,003 receiving yards and six touchdowns. Not to mention, he also contributed on special teams at Oregon, handling kick return duties.
This past season, Marshall’s year was cut short as he only played in four games due to an ankle injury. Despite, his ankle injury which hampered him in 2015, Marshall showed at his pro-day that he could be a valuable weapon. At his pro-day, he ran a 4.56 40-yard dash. With that type of speed, it’s no reason why Oregon had him on the field all the time.
Currently, NFL.com has him projected to go in rounds 5 or 6. For the Eagles, that is a perfect spot to grab a player of Marshall’s caliber, as he could push Josh Huff and help the Eagles with kick returns.
