Four days on the job and the Sacramento Kings new general manager is already starting to build his staff. According to multiple reports, Pete D’Alessandro is hiring former Kings player and assistant coach Mike Bratz. Yahoo Sports! Adrian Wojnarowski adds that Bratz is expected to leave his post in Denver as the team’s director of player personnel and join the Kings as an assistant general manager.
In addition to D’Alessandro, Bratz also has ties to new Kings coach Michael Malone as both worked for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the last decade. He is an NBA lifer who has spent most of the last 35 years as a coach, player, scout or front office executive in the league.
Who is Mike Bratz?
- Drafted in with the 22nd pick of the 1977 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns. Played nine seasons in the league for six different teams, averaging seven points and 3.2 assists per game. Bratz finished his career as a member of the 1985-86 Kings during the team’s first season in Sacramento.
- Worked as an assistant coach and scout for the Kings from 1991-1997.
- Spent the 1998-99 season as a scout for the Utah Jazz before joining Gar Heard’s staff in Washington as an assistant coach for the 1999-2000 season.
- Joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2000-01 season as a college and CBA scout. Spent the next nine seasons in Cleveland with such titles as director of basketball operations and director of player personnel.
- Became the Denver Nuggets scouting director in 2009 and was promoted to director of player personnel in 2012.
- Bratz was born in Lompoc, CA and is a graduate of Stanford University.
