The Reno Bighorns have a new front man. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Sacramento Kings have plucked David Arseneault Jr. out of the college ranks and handed him the reigns of their D-League hybrid affiliate.
The 28-year-old Arseneault is leaving Grinnell University where he played and then coached under his father Dave Sr. Since the 2012-13 season, the younger Arseneault has worked as the team’s associate head coach.
As a player, Arseneault, led the country in assists four straight seasons. He finished his playing career as Grinell’s all-time leader in assists, second in points scored and in 2008, he set an NCAA single-game record with 34 assists in a drubbing of North Central (MN).
The Arseneault’s are known for their uptempo, run-and-gun style of play. The Grinnell system relies heavily on 3-point shooting, full-court pressure and constant substitutions. Under this system, guard Jack Taylor scored an NCAA record 138 points on 52-for-108 shooting, including 27-for-71 from long-range during a 2012 victory over Faith Baptist Bible.
Arseneault replaces Joel Abelson, who left Reno to join the New York Knicks earlier this summer after leading the Bighorns to the playoffs last season.
