After New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on the one yard line to seal the 28-24 Super Bowl XLIX win for his team, we found out terrible news regarding Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman.

According to ESPN’s John Clayton, Sherman may need offseason Tommy John surgery on his left elbow as he was playing with torn ligaments. It was known throughout the week that Sherman was playing with torn ligaments as he suffered the injury a couple weeks ago in the NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers.

Sherman made it known that he would be ready for the Super Bowl and practiced the entire week.

Here is more from Clayton:

The source indicated that the injury was worse than just an elbow sprain. Although the source didn’t indicate the prognosis and timetable, it is likely he will go Tommy John surgery after the season.

In tonight’s game, Sherman had three tackles but it seems like his recovery might not be as long as a baseball player when they go through Tommy John surgery explained here by Mike Loyko of NEPatriotsDraft.com.

If it is eight months then expect Sherman to not be back until October at the earliest.
