It’s no mystery that the St. Louis Blues want to sign Ryan Miller to a long contract. After giving up numerous pieces to secure him and Steve Ott, the Blues made it clear that they didn’t want their relationship with Miller to just be a short-term rental.
Will Miller sign a new deal to stay with the Blues? The answer to that will have to wait.
A report from TSN speculates states that Miller wants to wait until free agency hits to talk about contracts. The belief is that he has an interest in Anaheim, partially because of the fact his wife is an actress and spends time in Hollywood.
Would Anaheim be interested? Apparently they would be as the same TSN report mentions that the Ducks tried to land Miller earlier in the year but a deal never came to fruition. Their goaltending situation has evolved some as they shipped Viktor Fasth to the Edmonton Oilers, but they are still facing down the fact Jonas Hiller is in the final year of his contract.
Here’s a thought to debate: How costly would it be if Miller would walk away at the end of the year? The answer to that probably hinges on how well the Blues do in the playoffs this season. The franchise’s first Cup may be worth an expensive rental. However, it’s a bit frightening to think of what the St. Louis net will be like if they aren’t able to lock Miller in to a new deal.
