The Sacramento Kings have added another undrafted free agent to their roster. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Kings have picked up rookie point guard Deonte Burton out of the University of Nevada-Reno. Terms of his contract have not been reported.
Burton becomes the second undrafted player the Sacramento Kings have added to their roster this offseason. The franchise signed rookie big Eric Moreland to a three-year deal following stellar play in summer league at Las Vegas.
Burton was projected as a second-rounder in this year’s NBA Draft, but instead went unselected once the smoke cleared. The Sacramento Kings showed interest in Burton during the process, bringing him in for a workout a week before the draft.
“I think I can bring a team penetration,” Burton said following his pre-draft workout with the Sacramento Kings back in June. “I’m explosive going to the rim. I can create for others and create for myself. I’m bringing to a team that creativeness on offense.”
The 23-year-old Burton played four seasons at Nevada. He averaged a career-best 20.1 points and 4.4 assists while playing close to 40 minutes a night with the Wolfpack.
After going undrafted, Burton signed with the Washington Wizards and played with their summer league team in Las Vegas. He appeared in six contests, including two starts, and averaged 1.8 points and one assist per 16.7 minutes a game. Coincidentally, Burton’s last game in Las Vegas came against the Sacramento Kings in the semi-final round of the summer league tournament.
