After meeting with free agents Andre Iguodala and Tyreke Evans yesterday in Los Angeles, the new Sacramento Kings front office is back at work. According to HoopsHype, the Kings are hosting 31-year old Spanish point guard Jose Calderon today in Sacramento.
Calderon spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Toronto Raptors before a mid-season trade last year sent him to the Detroit Pistons. Known as a pass-first point guard, Calderon has career averages of 10.1 points and 7.2 assists per game. He is also a career 40-percent 3-point shooter and his career assist percentage is a stellar 39.6.
The Kings were one of the worst passing teams in the league last year and are clearly looking to improve that aspect of their game. The Kings averaged just 20.8 assists per contest and were ranked 25th in the category last season.
According to the report, the free agent guard will meet with general manager Pete D’Alessandro, new owner Vivek Ranadivé, coach Michael Malone and Chris Mullin.
