The Sacramento Kings are making a strong push to land one of this year’s top free agents. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Kings have offered 29-year-old swingman Andre Iguodala a four-year contract worth $56 million.
Iguodala has also reportedly been offered a five-year deal by his current team, the Denver Nuggets. But according to Yahoo! Sports, the contract from the Nuggets is below the Kings’ aggressive offer, which has put them in the driver’s seat to land Iguodala.
The nine-year veteran met with Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé, general manager Pete D’Alessandro and coach Michael Malone yesterday in Los Angeles. Iguodala has an existing relationship with D’Alessandro, who recently left Denver for Sacramento following the front office and coaching shakeup in the Mile High City.
In addition to the Kings and Nuggets, the 29-year-old small forward has also met with the Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and New Orleans Pelicans. The Dallas Mavericks have also been reportedly been linked to Iguodala.
If the Kings sign Iguodala, the chances they also re-sign fourth-year swingman Tyreke Evans are low. Evans is mulling over a four year, $44-million offer that includes incentives from the Pelicans. He met with the Kings yesterday and came away impressed by the presentation from the Kings new braintrust. However, he has also met with the Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks about possible opportunities.
