Quincy Acy and Travis Outlaw are headed east. According to USA Today Sports, the Sacramento Kings will trade the two forwards to the New York Knicks for Wayne Ellington and Jeremy Tyler. As part of the trade, the Knicks have also agreed to lift the provisions on a future second-round pick they previously dealt to the Kings.
The Sacramento Kings now own an additional, fully-unprotected second-round pick in 2016. The pick, which was dealt to the Kings in 2013, was previously protected from selections 31-37.
The Kings are not expected to retain Tyler and Ellington. USA Today Sports added that the Kings plan to use the stretch provision on Ellington and waive Tyler.
The Sacramento Kings had until Aug. 15 to decide on whether to retain or cut Acy without guaranteeing his contract for the upcoming 2014-15 season. They extended the original deadline of Jul. 25 following his standout performance at Las Vegas Summer League. In Vegas, the former Sacramento Kings forward averaged 11.3 points and 6.7 rebounds while shooting better than 50 percent from the field and 3-point range in roughly 26 minutes a game.
Acy was originally acquired from the Toronto Raptors in the Rudy Gay trade. The 23-year-old forward out of Baylor appeared in 56 games with the Kings last season, averaging 2.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14 minutes per contest.
Outlaw leaves the Kings after playing sparingly in Sacramento over the last three seasons. In 63 contests last year, the 29-year-old veteran averaged 5.4 points and 2.7 rebounds while shooting roughly 40 percent from the field in 17 minutes per game. Outlaw was originally signed by the Sacramento Kings after the New Jersey Nets waived him using the amnesty provision following the 2011 NBA lockout.
