The 2015-16 NBA season is approaching with training camp set to begin in the next couple of weeks. One player who will be looking for a new home is former 2013 number one overall pick Anthony Bennett.

According to Yahoo Sports, Bennett and the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement on a contract buyout. Bennett is scheduled to make $5.8 this season.

For him to become an unrestricted free agent, he has 48 hours to clear waivers. There are currently only four teams that could take on his contract. That list includes the Philadelphia 76ers. League sources tell Yahoo Sports that both the Sixers and Portland Trailblazers plan to look carefully at the possibility of claiming Bennett, but Bennett’s representatives hope that no team claims him so he can choose his next team.

The Sixers could possibly take a look at Bennett as they only have 13 guaranteed contracts counted towards the upcoming season according to HoopsRumors.com. Currently, they have Scottie Wilbekin and Christian Wood listed with partially guaranteed contracts.

If the Sixers do claim Bennett, he would have the opportunity to get extensive minutes competing to be a solid backup and having a chance to develop his game. The next 48 hours will tells us what will happen with Bennett next.
